RAKU WORKSHOP
Spring 2008 TBA 10:00 a.m. $120.00
Raku is a firing technique from 16th century Japan. The actual translation of Raku in Japanese is: happiness by chance. To potters around the world it means temperatures of 1850 degrees Fahrenheit, the glow of red-hot pottery and the flash of fire. The pieces are fired outside, removed from the kiln while glowing hot and placed in a nest of combustible material which bursts into flames, engulfing the pottery. This procedure allows the surface to crackle and creates lustrous copper colors
Up to 25lbs. of clay, bisque firing, glazes, kiln diagrams, all supplies needed for the workshop, food all day and more. Take the clay with you and make the pots at home or make your pots at our studio. You will glaze all the pots at the workshop and take them home that day.
If time is tight just come that day, buy a pot, glaze it, fire it and take it home that day.
